The journey of life

Life is a journey and a process. We were not created to just add up to the numbers. Everything we do matters and adds up to form who we are. The journey of life is a special birthday podcast that was recorded to encourage the downcast, depressed, demotivated person who doesn't think life is worth living anymore and resorts to self-pity and chronic depression.

In this episode, I talked about:

  • Discovering purpose
  • Developing the right attitude and behaviours
  • Handling failure
  • The impact of relationships

FRESH MANNA DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE - THURSDAY 13TH MAY, 2021

ANOTHER GENERATION (1)

AUTHOR:

REV. DR. O. EZEKIEL & REV. DR. M. EZEKIEL

JUDGES 2:6-10

6 And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land. 7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel. 8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old. 9 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash. 10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

MEDITATION SCRIPTURE:

“And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. (judg.2:10)

The disobedience of Adam and Eve introduced death into the human race. This means that the original pattern of continuity and immortality was broken. Meaning that man would die from the face of the earth, only his legacies would remain as memory of him. God established a pattern of what may be theological education with Abraham. _*“For I know him, that he will command his children and his house hold after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, (Gen.18:19)*_ You don’t need to go far to discover that Abraham passed on his Godly values to Isaac (Gen.26:25) and Isaac passed the pattern to Jacob. All through the time that Jacob lived with Laban, he maintained his identity and Laban testified to that (Gen 30:27). Today, we see a generation that knows not the LORD neither the works which He did in Israel, what went wrong. The dilemma Israel faced in her generation is clearly seen in the Church today. We have great apostles, pastors and teachers, great prophets whose sons and daughters are cultist in our universities. Recently, I saw the video of the conversion testimony of the son of the greatest preachers of our time. He was a great cultist who became a Capone and was even initiating other youths into cultism. I rejoice and also wept as I watched the video. Rejoicing because Christ has found him, and weeping because of the havoc he had caused the kingdom of God and the pains he had caused his parents. Proper Christian discipleship of the young generation is the key to continuity of our faith and divine patterns.

TURNING POINT:

PRAYER:

Lord, help us to successfully pass the baton to the next generation, so that the legacy of truth and Godliness will not be lost.

DISOBEDIENCE

AUTHOR:

REV. DR. O. EZEKIEL & REV. DR. M. EZEKIEL

TEXT: JUDGES 2:1-5

And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you. 2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this? 3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. 4 And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. 5 And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.

MEDITATION SCRIPTURE:

“And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their alters; but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this”. (Judg.2:2).

Disobedience is the product of a rebellious heart. It is not just an act, it is a spirit that captures an individual, always giving him good reasons why he must not agree with the standard rules. In the first instance where disobedience was recorded in the scriptures, the case of our first parent Adam and Eve, Satan didn’t just pluck the fruit and put it in their mouths and persuaded them to take a bite. No! He gave them good reasons why they should think otherwise. He appealed to their sense of reason and by the time he convinced Eve, he didn’t have to pluck the fruit for her, she plucked it by herself and even shared with her husband. A lot of people, who live the life of disobedience today, whether their spouse, parents, or delegated authority, do so with a conviction that they are just being themselves or being civilized. The Israelite; they were being wise when they decided to make a league with the people of the land. They entered into marriages with them and used them as servants instead of destroying them utterly as God had commanded. In the long run, they paid dearly for their error because they were soon lured into Idolatry. This led to loss of favour with God and they became slaves to their enemies. The fruit of disobedience, no matter how succulent, have bitter seeds that grow to become strange patterns, destroying generations.

TURNING POINT:

GIVE NO ROOM TO THE ENEMY

AUTHOR:

REV. DR. O. EZEKIEL & REV. DR. M. EZEKIEL

JUDGES 1:34-36

34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley: 35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries. 36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

MEDITATION SCRIPTURE:

“And the Amorites force the children of Dan into the mountain: for they will not suffer them to come down to the valley.” (Judg.1:34)

The entire book of Judges seems to be the stories of a replaced Israel who intermittently entered into slavery in their own land. This was because they missed God's pattern. In all the battles they fought in the wilderness, during the era of Moses, they fought as a nation not as individual tribes. They against King Og of Bashan and king Sihon of the Amorites, who were great kings and great nations, but the united forces of Israel under the command of Joshua won great victories and dispossessed these nations of their lands (Numb.21:21-25). The battle against Jericho was fought and won as a united force, but today we see a tribalistic, disintegrated Israel. We see the Amorites forcing the tribe of Dan to the mountains while they occupy the plains, what a tragedy. Whenever God’s people deviate from divine patterns, they create loopholes for Satan to attack their liberty. Strange or ungodly patterns, no matter how fanciful and productive they may appeal at first, have a satanic mandate that must be carried out in the long run. Giving the enemy no room means tracing your way back to the original pattern and abiding by it.

TURNING POINT:

Whenever we deviate from divine patterns, we are giving Satan loophole to attack our liberty.

PRAYER:

Lord, help me to close up any loopholes that I may have opened up to the enemies in my life.

 DON’T CHANGE THE PATTERN

AUTHORS:

REV. DR. O. EZEKIEL & REV. DR. M. EZEKIEL

 JUDGE 1:27-33

27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. 28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out. 29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them. 30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries. 31 Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob: 32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out. 33 Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.

 MEDITATION SCRIPTURE:

”Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.” (Judg.1:33).

The greatest problem man has ever faced even from the Garden of Eden is that of his quest for independence. As a free moral agent, man seek to establish his own rules, pave his own ways with the notion that he is intelligent and powerful enough to handle things even when they get out of hand. From bible and contemporary history, we have witnessed that this notion has never worked and will never work. From the very beginning God’s call for Abraham was a call unto separation (Gen.12:1-3). When Israel came out of Egypt, God commanded them to destroy the old inhabitants of the land. They were to utterly destroy their idolatrous alters. Marriage with them was prohibited (Ex. 34:13-16). But today, we see the people of Israel adjust the rules and standards. Rather than destroy the inhabitants of the land, they allowed them to co-habit and turn them into slaves. It sounds good to have fetchers of water and hewer of wood, but the aftermath was terrible. Very soon we shall begin to see how these nations inter-married with the Israelites, corrupted their faith, and turns them into slaves. You cannot be wiser than God. What God disallows can never work for your uttermost good.

 TURNING POINT:

You cannot be wiser than God. What God disallows can never work for your uttermost good.

 PRAYER:

Dear Lord, help me to work with Your approved pattern always.

 INTEGRITY

 AUTHOR:
REV. DR. O. EZEKIEL & REV. DR. M. EZEKIEL

 JUGES 1:22-26
22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them. 23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.) 24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy. 25 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family. 26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

MEDITATION SCRIPTURE:
“So he showed them the entrance into the city, and they put the city to the sword but spared the man and his whole family”. (Judge. 1:25)

Integrity is defined as conduct that conforms to an accepted standard of right and wrong. It is firm adherence to a code, especially moral values. Recently, I read the story of a village girl who was born out of wedlock. Her mother abandoned her with her aged grandmother and moved on with her life. In the village the little girl struggled to survive with her sick grandmother until a distant relation came with his wife to pick her as a maid. Her grandmother was not willing to release her without a promise of a better life and future. She gave the couple the condition that the little girl must be well cared for and sent to school to secure a future for herself. This couple agreed to this arrangement and took the little girl to the city where they lived. In their house, this girl was turned into a slave. She did all the house chores with little or nothing to eat. One of the days when the lady of the house was giving her the beating of her life, because she stole and ate some rice from the pot, since she was starved as a punishment the previously day. She reminded her of her miserable background and told her that they only promised her grandmother that they would send her to school because that was what the woman wanted to hear. In reality, they had no intention of fulfilling their promise. Integrity is doing as you have said no matter who is involved. While reputation is the image you have built for yourself; how men see you, integrity is the real person you are before God.

TURNING POINT:
While reputation is the image you have built for yourself; how men see you, integrity is the real person you are before God.

PRAYER:
Lord, make me a person of integrity.
